Job Description
The internships will be for work with UNEP, Industry and Economy Division, Chemicals and Health Branch, GEF Chemicals and Waste Unit staff located in Nairobi but will be undertaken remotely. The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Under the supervision, guidance and mentoring of the respective Programme Management Officer, the Intern will carry out the following duties:
Intern – Digital Support (home-based)
· Assist in building, deploying, and maintaining/supporting the portfolio database
· Assist in developing, constructing, testing, and maintaining ETL pipelines
· Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
· Assist in conceptualizing and developing no-code or low-code infrastructure that allows data to be accessed and analysed in the MS PowerPlatform
Assist in upgrading the Portfolio Management System & other apps
Requirements:
Education
Applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) Preferred area of study: Computing, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a relevant area of study related to computer/data sciences.
(c) Understanding of common databases and data structures.
(d) Experience with the Microsoft Power Platform. Proficiency in Excel, PowerAutomate and Power BI (or suitable equivalent) is preferable.
(e) Back-end development skills, such as APIs.
(f) Excellent communication skills as there is a need to discuss technical principles and business processes in simple language to people at all levels.
(g) Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
(h) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Experience with the Microsoft Power Platform. Proficiency in Excel, PowerAutomate and Power BI (or suitable equivalent) is required.
