Overall, Job Purpose
We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated individual for the position of Programme Officer – Community Voice & Philanthropy. this position will play a central role in:
I. Advancing push for a vibrant, credible, and sustainable civil society sector while promoting stronger community voices.
II. Building responsive and accountable governance structures and processes at the national and Counties level.
III. Promoting policy in advocacy and influencing, efficiently linking, and collaborating with key departments to support capacity building in this area.
IV. Strengthening work in promoting local organized giving/philanthropy, enhancing grassroots-led policy and other national civic engagement initiatives.
The Programme Officer – Community Voice & Philanthropy, will be responsible for supporting in the designing, coordinating, and implementing governance and community philanthropy activities at the Counties level in collaboration with individual County-based civil society organizations (CSOs), and County-based civil society organizations (CSO) networks (Communities of Practice).
Responsibilities:
I. Facilitate/ support the building of responsive and accountable governance structures and processes at the national and county levels
II. Strengthen grassroots/community-led Policy, Governance, and Accountability infrastructures, and support relevant national and County civic engagement initiatives.
III. Work with other like-minded stakeholders at the County level in building vibrant grassroots organization networks (Communities of Practice) that collaborate and leverage each other’s strengths while reducing or eradicating self-defeating competition amongst County Based Civil Society Actors (CSAs).
IV. Participate in different County and national networks to learn, share and advocate collective agenda of promoting philanthropy while strengthening grassroots and national philanthropy infrastructure.
V. Coordinate capacity development-related activities for implementing partners and other local actors in diverse areas of organizational development (e.g., programme management, implementation, resource mobilization, communications, and sustainability planning etc.)
VI. Support in the identification of partner CSAs, build and nurture relationships with Government offices (esp County-based offices and departments while ensuring effective linkage of grassroots conversation to national platforms). Includes providing technical and operational support to partner CSAs.
VII. Support the planning, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of Change the Game Academy (CtGA) trainings in the country.
VIII. Support monitoring and evaluation activities for Power of Voices programme, research, and advocacy work.
IX. Support in the management and coordination of events and functions related to the governance and philanthropy docket.
X. Report writing
Requirements:
I. A minimum of a university degree in Development Studies or any other relevant area of specialization.
II. At least five years’ progressive experience in programme development and implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
III. Demonstrable experience in facilitating adult learning (for civil society organizations leaders) through training and coaching. Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills.
IV. Knowledge and familiarity with the Kenyan CSO sector, its growth, challenges, opportunities and
legal frameworks that govern its operations.
V. Excellent analytical and policy articulation skills, community/citizen voice, philanthropy/ community giving, resource mobilization, and other collaboration skills.
VI. Good understanding of Kenya’s devolved system of government, its challenges, and opportunities in the context of advancing sustained community development.
VII. Strong teamwork skills with demonstrated experience in working with and growing teams.
VIII. Ability to work in a team environment and be flexible, versatile, and open minded in contributing.
